Long Lake is more than just pretty scenery: it's a great fishing hole as well!
Getting there
From the intersection of Route 30 and Route 28N in Long Lake follow Route 30 toward Tupper Lake. Continue through town and at the base of the steep hill take a right onto Dock Road and follow to the end at the state boat launch site. Car top access is also available at the town beach in the center of town near the steel bridge.
Fishing
There isn't as much shoreline fishing as one might think on Long Lake, but there is a decent amount. Near the beach area you can cast a few lines, but it is a busy location. Across the road along the spillway trail is a long stretch of open shoreline. You can also access shoreline fishing from off North Point Road at the twin lean-to canoe carry; a 0.2 mile hike will be required. Cast to the weeds and shallows for some decent pike fishing. Shoreline fishing at the headwaters proves to hold some decent trout as well as bass.
The only motorboat access is from the state boat launch site off Dock Road. But car-top boat access can be had at the town beach area, and at the canoe carry at the headwaters off North Point Road. The deepest portion of the lake is at the north end and is around 50 feet. Troll here for some decent sized pike or cast deep for some bass. Fish the shores for decent trout and some fun for the kids catching pumpkinseeds.
Ice fishing
Northern pike is the most popular fish to go for in the winter on Long Lake. There is an annual ice fishing derby on the lake, as conditions allow.
